(Christina and Elijah)

Ice Storm is Ang Lee’s second English film following Sense and Sensibility.  The film stars Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, Christina Ricci, Elijah Wood, Tobey Maguire, and Sigourney Weaver.  Ang wanted to direct a film that documented a confusing transition in American history; the early 1970’s focusing mainly on the parents and how their new behavior affects their children.  Kevin Kline is married to Joan Allen and they have two children, 14 year old sexually confused Christina Ricci, and brainiac Tobey Maguire.  Kevin is having an affair with Sigourney who has two younger boys, one of them is Elijah Wood who is sort of dating Christina Ricci.

All over the film is sprinkled with light and effective humor, this plays off of a very gloomy and foreboding feeling that continues throughout the film.  The film is wonderfully directed and the whole key party scene was incredible.  It’s always great to see a director who can make so many wonderful and different films.

This one has always hovered near my 10 favorite films. I think it’s Ang Lee’s best, which is saying a lot since he’s one of the best and most diverse of filmmakers. It’s certainly in my 10 favorite closing moments of a film ever.

Oh man that ending was incredible.
It was a really great movie, I really loved anything with Elijah the most, the image on the diving board was great.

Kevin Kline was my favorite in the film. I think he’s one of our greatest actors, seemingly commanding every role he touches.
