THE BOATSMEN

New Dates for Shooting
June 14, 2009, 8:38 pm
Filed under: My short films, Zombie

The major shooting dates for the zombie film have changed from July 5th-11th to July 20th-24th and July 25th-28th.

The 20th-24th will include the larger scale work involved in the production.

i.e. Shots outside of Tulsa.  Shots with multiple extras.  Shots outside.

July 25th-28th will include wrapping up bits such as the intro work with David Rainwater who is unavailable until that time and second unit work.  I’m sure this will spill over a bit though due to ADR work that will be ongoing during editing which will go into full gear on August 1st.

Any comments or questions are appreciated, please stay updated and if you do not think that I have your contact info please e-mail it to me, we need all the extras and behind the scenes help we can get.

The positions filled as of now are

Director, Cinematographer, Editer- Myself

Assistant Director- Andrew Sherrill

4 Main Stars- Trent Davis, Phillip Chapman, David Rainwater, Jesse Barnes

2 Scripted Actors.

We need Extras and Crew members, specifically makeup.  We will be using a Lowel Lighting Kit, most likely a Lowel Light Kit with three pieces and an Azden SGM- 2X Shotgun Mic that will most of the time be mounted on my camera, but when it is not we will need steady hands to operate the mic mounted on a boom.

It is getting serious and it is fast approaching, until that time I will do my best to update and to revise and plan to the fullest.

Have a wonderful day.

Hello my fellow air-breathers…

I am in the process of writing a script for a zombie movie.  Though it will not be your typical zombie flick it will not have any petty twist or and new jazzed up bits.  The point is to create a style and to make great zombies that correctly fit the criteria of a Solanum strain zombie.

The film stars…

Phillip Chapman

Trent Davis

Jesse Christian Paul Barnes

and David Rainwater.

ZOMBIE FILM.

Thanks and bye for now.

Soon to make a list.

Sadly I am a little behind most on my favorite films of 2008 due to the fact that Tulsa does not host near enough great films.  Once I see The Wrestler, Slumdog Millionaire, and Doubt I am sure that I can safely make the list of my favorite films and possibly do an Academy Awards of sorts.

In totally unrelated news, Jesse Barnes and I are beginning a comic book which I am writing and he is putting som images together to accompany.   When we finish the first one we will post it on the internet for your viewing pleasure.

What I have been doing OTHER than updating this.

I guess it’s just in my nature to slip into extreme laziness.  I’m ready for some sort of change, but sparking that is a bit tricky.

Christmas time came and went and it was pretty fucking weird due to a complete schedule change, I went through the archives of all of my old family videos one night without sleep and I really miss that family atmosphere, the mountain of gifts, my uncles great big beard, my grandmothers.

I also revisited the many wonderful home videos my sister and I conjured, mainly stop motion action figures and Sherlock Holmes remakes.  I plan on putting these into the computer and editing the shit out of my past, really get them in there.

I’ve never made a new years resolution, but this January has got me thinking and I really want to do some prioritizing, write, edit, finish my last project godammit, shoot over the summer, maintain grades so my parents won’t be breathing down my neck, approach strangers with conversations.  The key is not letting myself slip into sitting around doing nothing.  My parents probably think it’s watching movies, but that’s the motivation really.  Luckily they are understanding that more and more, I have a pretty obsessive nature.

I also realize I am terrible at making lasting relationships, which at my age isn’t a problem, it’s just an interesting observation, because I have had my fair share of girlfriends.  Perhaps I just get wrapped up in other things, or what have you.

All I know right now is that Sera Cahoone, M83, Kings of Leon, the Muppets, Emile Hirsch, and others all kick ass.

So, if you could ever so often ask me what I’ve been up to lately that would be awesome.  And if I say not much, kick my ass.  I’ll try to keep up on here, thanks friends.

New Film this Winter

Just wanted to give an update on some short film businness. This winter during my break I plan on shooting a short, character study film involving a teen couple and a rough spot in their relationship that ends it.  I have all the basic points and I have a crew interested.  I just need some solid actors, two really.  I will post some more on this and any other projects soon, right now my main focus is school I guess, my parents have been hounding me constantly.

If any body has any fun things they want to see in the film that would be cool, it’s still in the writing stage.  Of course if you show any interest just let me know.  Thanks.

Ang Lee’s Whacked Suburban 70’s in The Ice Storm

(Christina and Elijah)

Ice Storm is Ang Lee’s second English film following Sense and Sensibility.  The film stars Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, Christina Ricci, Elijah Wood, Tobey Maguire, and Sigourney Weaver.  Ang wanted to direct a film that documented a confusing transition in American history; the early 1970’s focusing mainly on the parents and how their new behavior affects their children.  Kevin Kline is married to Joan Allen and they have two children, 14 year old sexually confused Christina Ricci, and brainiac Tobey Maguire.  Kevin is having an affair with Sigourney who has two younger boys, one of them is Elijah Wood who is sort of dating Christina Ricci.

All over the film is sprinkled with light and effective humor, this plays off of a very gloomy and foreboding feeling that continues throughout the film.  The film is wonderfully directed and the whole key party scene was incredible.  It’s always great to see a director who can make so many wonderful and different films.

A Suprising and Satisfying Romance is the strength in The Go-Getter.

The film I watched tonight after not being able to sit through the screwed up DVD of Danny McBride’s the Foot Fist Way was Martin Hynes’ The Go Getter starring Lou Taylor Pucci and Zooey Deschanel along with appearances from Jena Malone and Maura Tierney and music from M Ward.  I had put off seeing the film just because I had heard so many negative things about the film, but I was really in the mood for a road movie.  Though this film is of course flawed, any apparent weaknesses are forgotten whenever Lou and Zooey share an intimate moment together.  Even when the film takes some predictable and frustrating turns it is quickly fixed by getting up and continuing where it was going in the first place, a real “go getter.”

The story follows a troubled 19 year old who’s mother passed away 8 1/2 months ago.  He is finishing up school but he is overcome with unease and a healthy amount of angst, so he decides to steal a car and find his Hispanic half brother.  Luckily for him the stolen car belongs to Zooey’s character, an apparently wise and quirky character that of course comes with any great Deschanel character with a few little extra bits here and there.  The two begin talking on the phone regularly and develop an odd but wonderful relationship.  Along the way Lou finds people left in the wake of his deviant “lone rider-esque” brother.  He smokes some pot, does some ecstasy, almost loses his virginity, all of those kinds of things.  The movies style changes with the scenary and the cinematography is wonderful throughout.

I really enjoyed this film and could watch Lou and Zooey together all day.  The strongest thing to look for in the movie is their relationship, that’s what keeps the story going and that was what kept my nerve going (I hate to see wonderful and obviously solid relationships fucked up on screen, one reason I don’t watch too many straight up comedies).  I might expand on those parentheses later because I don’t want to be pinned down by that statement.  SO go rent the Go Getter it was really cool and really sweet.  Who doesn’t love a good road movie?

4 out of 5 stars (including half stars)
